10 year anniversary car-b-que

Car-B-Que on 10 year anniversary

Welcome to 2017! We can’t believe that we are already into the second month of the New Year! We’ve been very busy here at East Jesus and have some exciting projects to share with you.

First of all, we have several events and work parties upcoming. Biggest of all was the East Jesus 10th Anniversary this weekend! We can’t believe that it’s been 10 years already. We celebrated East Jesus style with chocolate martinis, fire-spinning, the car-b-que, live music, and of course, art, art, and more art! We feel it was a weekend to remember and we hope to we would have made Charlie proud. Watch here for more photos, videos and more!

This coincided with the Niland Annual Tomato Festival, for which some of our friends and artists brought their fabulous art cars to add to the celebration in town! As last year our art car regatta was a huge hit. Shing Yin Khor’s Dusty Junk won a Best Float award and artist friend Brian Sadler won the award for Most Creative for his Crybaby car! Congratulations to you both!

In addition, the erection of large art installation piece Amphibia is taking place as we speak! Watch here for progress photos and please come take a peek when you visit. We feel that it will be a wonderful contribution to East Jesus.

We are planning to have some work parties soon and will be updating that information on our Facebook when it’s available, so please check it out. Secondly, we know that it’s been pretty quiet over here and for that we do apologize. We have a new social media team that is eager to share East Jesus with everyone, especially new artist friends and do-ers! We’re planning several things, so keep your eyes here and on Facebook for news. For our Patreon supporters, expect an update there soon as well.

We also want to note that we now have more organized hospitality coordination. This helps us plan for events and makes sure that we don’t double book any of our accommodations here. We ask that you please contact us through Facebook private messages when you want to stay for an event, or even just because, so that we can properly plan. This also goes for car and tent camping since we like to have an idea of how many people we have on campus.

Are you interested in participating in our project and want to learn what really makes East Jesus tick? If so, we have some good news for you. We are currently, as in right now, looking for resident artists. We need dependable, creative people who can help us plan and create new art as well as learn what it’s like to live in a desert collective in the middle of nowhere. Does this sound like your bag? Shoot us an email for more details.

We are looking for another truck so if you have a friend, know of a neighbor, have seen one that looks promising, etc. then please reach out. We are a “not for profit” 501C corporation and can provide a tax deductible receipt for truck donors. We are looking for a dependable, running used vehicle, specifically one with a strong hitch for large towing jobs.

Lastly, the political and social climate in our country is very difficult for so many of us right now. We here at East Jesus want to focus even more on the arts. Art has always been political and artists have always been an important part of creating change and inspiration in the world. We want to fill East Jesus and the world with art and the messages of artists and we are counting on your help!
