The end of the season is upon us; so I’ll just brush this new layer of dust off my keyboard and say some things about that…

The end of March brought a few things: Liz and Coco started a MASSIVE, and long overdue, renovation on the kitchen (aided by Peter’s fantastic find of some granite counter-tops). Our resident wizard, Mopar, broke all our hearts by departing on his annual pilgrimage, to Vietnam, to be with his other family. We’ll miss him until he returns to us in the fall.

Then there was Art Slam…

Our annual put-our-good-friends-to-work end-of-the-season party was, as usual, just as fun as fun can be. Royce, aided by Coco, built a new, giant dodecahedron (the Dodo) to house the new Art Slam offerings. Nick put a new observation deck on his Absurdatory. Peter and his wife Lan brought us some delicious offerings of the edible variety. (Vietnamese food, people. Get your minds out of that drug-fueled gutter.) Sue made us our last chocolate martinis of the season and the Car-B-Que was lit in a satisfactorily dangerous fashion. Also, after so many years away, we were graced  with the presence of the ever-lovely Heather and her friend Dylan. (It was so great to see you again. Don’t make it so long between visits next time!)

As the evening progressed we all got into our best fancy attire and jauntily made our way to The Range for Slab City Prom and danced the night away. Upon our return to EJ the music room got humming with Aaron and John-O playing some renditions of Flip Cassidy’s finest hits and reminded us all why his presence is sorely missed during these nights. (They did alright but it wasn’t quite the same. Ya know?)

During the weekend we were introduced to Scott Helman, from Canada. A fine musician, Scott was in the Slabs to film a music video and, as tends to happen, fell in love with our art. So we invited him back, after Art Slam, to film in our music room. As we like to do we treated them to some good food, courtesy of Liz (poor lads had been living off lunch meat in an RV) and good company. And, since it was one of their crew member’s birthday, we allowed him to live out his lifelong dream of jamming in our music room on our suspiciously in-tune piano. (Seriously, how does it do that?)

Overall, a wonderful weekend of fun, food, fire, and of course friends.

Then, after surviving the Great East Jesus Sandstorm of 2017 (our carpets are gonna need a lot of therapy) Tray built a second story on the pink shed for Pynx’s newly adopted boyfriend Punx. All that’s left to do is get ready for the impending arrival of the Morton Salt Children’s Religious Revival for one more weekend of crazy art shenanigans before summer finally shows itself. And, since the weather has been rather kind to us, (aside from that sandstorm) we still have some time to finish any outstanding to-dos. (kitchen, compost boxes, vacuuming the desert)

We’ll still be here. Keep watching for more proof that we’re alive this summer. And, hey, I know it’s gonna get unbearably hot. But, if you’re so inclined, maybe drop by for a visit. That way we have someone else to talk to other than the same people we see everyday. (Not that they’re not interesting, it’s just nice to see a new face every so often.)
